Synergy March updates

New Outpatient COVID Therapies

We are all relieved to see that the trend of the COVID infection rate continues to decline. At the same time, we’d also like to remind our members to please contact your physician if you do acquire this virus as there are now several outpatient treatments available for the appropriate candidates.

In addition to a second monoclonal antibody option (given by infusion), there are now oral medications available for individuals who have mild-to-moderate COVID-19 and for those who are at high risk for progression to severe illness. These medications can reduce the risk of hospitalization or death. Oral medications must be taken as soon as possible after the diagnosis of COVID-19, and within five days of symptom onset; monoclonal antibodies can be given up to 10 days following a positive test result. There are also new indications and medications available for pre-exposure prophylaxis, meaning that they can be taken before an expected exposure to the virus. Please contact us for your personalized analysis and recommendations should you have a positive home test (or if you need to arrange testing).

As a reminder, vaccinated individuals who have not received a COVID-19 booster dose are at higher risk for severe disease. If you have not received a booster, kindly contact our team and we will be happy to arrange for you to have this at our office.

Reminder: Home Test Kits Available

For your convenience, iHealth at-home COVID test kits are available for purchase in unlimited quantities for both members and/or family and friends. The test includes a 2-pack of self-administered nasal swabs with instructions. Results are obtained 15 minutes after test administration. The cost is $30 per pack.
